About the Design

This simple yet elegant featured kitchen is the second kitchen The Kitchen Company co-owner Gail Bolling has designed for Woodbridge homeowners Steve and Nancy. Gail previously worked with the couple when they renovated their first home. After selling their first house and parting ways with their beloved kitchen, Steve and Nancy decided they wanted a similar kitchen design in their new home. “They wanted to duplicate much of what we had done in the original kitchen," explains Gail. “The kitchen in the first house we remodeled was quite a bit larger though so recreating the design in a smaller space posed some issues and concerns."

The homeowners’ biggest concern was that they would have to give up the large island and the professional-style appliances they enjoyed. Removing the wall between the kitchen and hallway opened up the space enough to allow Gail to reconfigure the existing space to accommodate all of the appliances and a large island, complete with a prep sink, microwave warming drawer, and seating.

Cabinet Details

Although some changes had to be made to the layout to accommodate original design features in the new space, the most important design elements remained the same. In keeping with the original design, the clients chose Edgemont Recessed style doors in Nordic White paint finish by Wood-Mode’s Brookhaven Cabinetry line. Honed Black Absolute granite countertops, Calcutta Gold marble subway tile backsplash, and Top Knobs hardware are also duplicated.

The large stainless steel appliances – perfect for professional chefs and food enthusiasts alike – are Sub-Zero and Wolf.
