Emily and Brian bought a spacious home in North Haven Connecticut for their family of three, but it needed some serious updates. The kitchen layout was difficult to work in and the adjacent rooms lacked the warm, cozy feeling the couple desired. With the help of The Kitchen Company, Emily and Brian were able to turn their space from dark and difficult to bright and inviting.

The Before

This outdated kitchen needs new flooring, updated appliances, and cabinets with a more streamlined look and modern hardware. It also needs a larger window to bring more natural light into the space. Although the kitchen may look light, it is an illusion created by the white tile floor, white cabinets, and white appliances.

The half wall between the kitchen and family room needs to be removed. It separates the flow of the space and causes the rooms to appear very distant from each other. The different flooring types also cause a huge divide in the spaces.

The After

The couple kept the initial L shaped layout of their kitchen the same. However, with the removal of the half wall the couple was able to move the double doors, and large kitchen window over to the left, creating more space in the corner of the kitchen. This gives the couple much more room to work between the sink and the stove, more cabinet space, and allows much more light into the home.

The height of the cabinets is increased and the crown molding is brought flush with the ceiling to make the kitchen seem larger and add storage space. An island is added to provide much needed storage and counter top space as well as seating for three.

Emily and Brian's new kitchen now blends seamlessly with the rest of their home. The combination of white and wood adds light and warmth to their space, while the green accents add color.
