After 25 years of remodeling kitchens for family, friends, and clients, Gail Bolling, co-owner and designer at The Kitchen Company, decided it was finally time to remodel her 24-year-old kitchen. To assure that the project was completed on time with minimal disruptions to her busy schedule, she hired Dave Gummoe to keep the project on schedule. Dave Gummoe is The Kitchen Company's cabinet installer and also an experienced general contractor.

The average kitchen remodel will run six weeks with a timeline as follows:

Week 1: Demolition

Week 2: Rough-In

Week 3: Flooring

Week 4: Cabinet and Appliance Install

Week 5: Template Countertops

Week 6: Install Countertops and Backsplash.

Demolition:

Before removing the cabinets, the team disconnects the plumbing and the electric. Then they complete the demolition process by removing the cabinets, flooring, and Sheetrock.

Rough In:

The plumber runs lines for the new sinks and rewires the ceiling for new recessed LED lights. During the Rough-In phase, it's not uncommon to run into plumbing and electrical issues and Gail's renovation was no exception. Issues arise on any job and a good contractor would be able to solve these problems for you.

Flooring:

Special order flooring from Reclamation Lumber in New Haven was installed in Gail's kitchen and living room. The new floors were then finished to match the existing flooring.

Painting:

Kevin Dolan Painting Company, located in Madison Connecticut, was hired to paint Gail's kitchen. Generally, this step takes place between the templating and installation of the countertops. However, Gail planned an extra week in case the special order flooring was delayed. Since the flooring arrived on time it was the perfect time to paint.

Cabinet and Appliance Installation:

At The Kitchen Company, we schedule a week for the cabinet and appliance installation. A week allows our installers the time that is necessary to precisely fit the cabinets and trim to create a custom furniture look for our clients.

Countertop Template:

With a laser measure and computer, our templaters from The Galleria created an exact pattern used to cut the counter material.

Countertop Installation and Backsplash:

Our expert crew from The Galleria installed the granite and marble countertops. Once the counters were installed, the sinks, faucets, and remaining appliances were connected by the plumber and electrician. The last step of any renovation is to then install the backsplash and grout it.
