Having a sink in your kitchen island can be helpful, but it also uses up valuable counter space. So how do you know if placing a sink in your island is right for your kitchen? Here’s how to decide.
Having a sink in your kitchen island is a great design feature if:
You have an open concept kitchen design.
If you can see other rooms from your island and want to be able to look out across your home while prepping meals or washing dishes, you’ll love an island sink. This is great for people with young children or pets you want to keep an eye on!
You have a galley kitchen or are only utilizing one wall for kitchen cabinetry.
Typically, you want your kitchen sink on one wall and your stove on another. But if you don’t have a lot of wall space, you might create a better flow by putting your kitchen sink in your kitchen island and your stove and hood on the parallel wall.
You want a prep sink.
Having your kitchen sink right across from your stove can create a beneficial flow, because you can prep and wash your food at your kitchen island, turn around to cook, and turn back around once more to serve and clean up.
If you have the room and love to host then you’ll love having two kitchen sinks. While someone is prepping for the first course, someone else can be doing dishes. It makes the workflow easier and the work gets done faster.
