The Kitchen Company Design Team
Every designer here at The Kitchen Company has been asked questions about white cabinetry. Many of these questions center around how to keep the cabinetry clean or if white is the right choice for the client's lifestyle. Well have no fear, white is not " just a trend" nor is it that difficult to clean (otherwise it wouldn't be so popular.) However, there are some things you should know about having a white kitchen.

In order to keep your white kitchen looking white, you're going to need to take special care when cleaning. White cabinetry can start to turn yellow, especially around active cooking areas like the stove top. In order to avoid this, you must be proactive about cleaning up the grease after cooking. Don't wait to wipe up grease and oil spills from your cabinetry.

White cabinets can also begin to yellow if they are exposed to direct sunlight for a long period of time. So the easiest way to prevent this is to make sure you have window treatments on your kitchen windows. A thin piece of white linen could be the difference between yellowed cabinets and white ones.

While white works for many families, it doesn't work for all of them. For instance, purchasing white cabinetry with teens in the house will be much easier upkeep than with young children. If you're up for the challenge then so are we, but always think about how much time you want to spend cleaning or if you can handle a little mess from time to time.
Emily's Kitchen in North Haven, CT
One of our recent remodel clients, Emily, told us that, "purchasing a wood countertop for [her] kitchen island really helped with the kids. They had somewhere where they could be messy and it wasn't all over [her] white kitchen cabinets." Wood countertops have their own pros and cons, but Emily purchased a distressed antique chestnut that easily hides scratches.
